Certifications: CrossFit Level 2 Certified
Years CrossFitting: Coaching/Training: 5 years of experience
What do you specialize in?: I would say as a natural CrossFitter I don’t have a specific specialty. I’m pretty naturally above average in all aspects of CrossFit from the warm up, to barbell, to gymnastics, to working the different metabolic zones. But if I had to choose what I really love to coach individuals, I love teaching gymnastics. Watching someone get their first kipping pull up or muscle up is a rush I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of.What are you passionate about?: Currently in my life, I am passionate about two things: CrossFit and health care. I coach CrossFit because it brings me a lot of joy seeing our amazing members everyday and watching them grow not just in their fitness but in their confidence throughout their daily lives. I am also passionate about CrossFit because it has become a family affair. I love getting coached by my brother, Derek. I love getting to spend my days learning and laughing with him. I am also equally passionate about health care. I am currently a part of a radiology program where I can hopefully help people identify any malfunctions they may be experiencing in their body so they can get to the healthiest version of their self. I love helping people in any fashion.
What do you love most about coaching your members?: My favorite part about coaching is giving people confidence when they can’t find it themselves. A lot of people are scared off by the word crossfit. But after spending one class at Squad, they feel more at ease because they realize we just want to push them to their own personalized limits. And after members have realized that, they relax and they learn. Watching people learn their limits and when to push beyond them, that’s when people gain confidence. That’s when they hit Pr’s and learn new skills. And those are the exact moments when I realize I love coaching these people.
How did you end up as a CrossFit coach? What path brought you here?: A few years ago I watched my brother, Derek, do a competition in Tampa. It was my first time seeing CrossFit but I recognized some of the movements from high school weightlifting. I also loved being active but I never wanted to partake in group sports. So that’s why I was immediately attracted to CrossFit because you get a group environment but you work individually. After my initial exposure, I knew I wanted to try it myself. Because I like being competitive, but I also loved having something to talk with my big brother about. Our age difference always put a big gap in giving us stuff to bond over, so I loved the whole idea of CrossFit . So after about a year of CrossFit, I was just approached by my gym owner at the time in Orlando about getting certified and I decided why not, extra cash and I didn’t have to pay for a membership anymore. Sweet.
What do you do when you’re not CrossFitting?: When I’m not CrossFitting, I live an exciting life filled with naps, food, and movies. I love movies. If I only had two hours and I had to choose between a really good workout and a really good movie… I’m not sure which I would choose. What’s your favorite quote?: ”If you ever get beat, you better get beat by someone that’s just purely more talented than you are. It better not ever be because you beat yourself.”
Anything else you want people to know about you?: Don’t be scared or feel intimidated, just do the best you can do everyday and you will be successful in everyone’s eyes. Even in your own eyes.

Natalie Scott
Title: CrossFit Coach
Natalie was a gymnast at a young age, competing by the age of nine. As a freshman in high school Natalie began coaching preschool and recreational gymnasts. By the time she was in college she was coaching gymnastics on a regular basis to students from age 4-18.
Throughout high school she was a varsity athlete, in soccer, gymnastics, cheerleading and track. In her freshman year she placed 2nd in New Hampshire in Indoor Track high jump. She came to Florida to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University and there met her husband Sean Scott. She was a cheerleader her freshman year in college and later continued to maintain fitness through general gym workouts and classes, always trying new things in an attempt to keep fitness interesting and exciting. She graduated from PBA in 2004 with a Psychology degree and a husband. After doing a variety of things, Sean and Natalie finally settled on opening a coffee shop together. Now Sean and Natalie are co-owners with Rodney Mayo of Subculture coffee, located on Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach. After having her daughter in 2011 she had hoped to get back to the gym and become a personal trainer in her extra time.
Instead she heard of a position at an unaffiliated Crossfit gym. “I went in and tried out a workout in March of 2012 and my world was turned upside down! My focus went from what the scale said to how to clean more weight or how to get better form on a snatch, how to climb a rope and so on. It was one goal to accomplish after another. I found a new confidence and strength that I didn’t know existed and fell in love with this new style of fitness all while learning how to watch each movement and make corrections as a coach.” She was a coach part-time for 5 years between having another baby, helping at the coffee shop and a year of teaching elementary PE.
Natalie came to The Crossfit Squad in February 2018 at the start of the Crossfit Open. She has competed in Clash of the Fittest in 2014 & 2015, Wodapalooza in 2016, Battle of the Beasts, Babes and Beards and other local competitions.
